Physical Education

The physical education program at the Calgary Girls’ School focuses on developing lifelong physical activity participants through exposure to a variety of skill development and health education activities. Students are provided with many opportunities to take risks and grow as learners and as athletes as they experience new activities both on and off the CGS campus.

Grade 4 and 5

  • Netball
  • In-line skating with Alien In-Line
  • Dance with Sound Kreations Inc.

Grade 6

  • General facility use at the Eau Claire YMCA
  • Ice skating and development of hockey and ringette skills at the Westside Recreation Centre
  • Golf at the Golf Canada Calgary Centre

Grade 7

  • Ice skating and development of hockey and ringette skills at the Westside Recreation Centre
  • Snowshoeing in West Bragg Creek
  • Tennis and racquetball at the University of Calgary

Grade 8

  • Curling at the Calgary Curling Club
  • Ice skating and development of hockey and ringette skills at the Westside Recreation Centre
  • Golf at the Golf Canada Calgary Centre

Grade 9

  • Fitness at the Westside Recreation Centre
  • Ice skating and development of hockey and ringette skills at the Westside Recreation Centre
  • Rock climbing at the Calgary Climbing Centre

Athletics

As a member of the Calgary Alternative Athletic Association the Calgary Girls’ School Griffins have the opportunity to participate in cross-country, volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field competitions against other charter schools. Tryouts are held at the beginning of each athletic season and practices and game occur routinely thereafter.
